Android

What is Android?

Android is an operating system based on the Linux kernel. The project responsible for developing the Android system is called the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and is primarily lead by Google.

The Android system supports background processing, provides a rich user interface library, supports 2-D and 3-D graphics using the OpenGL-ES standard and grants access to the file system as well as an embedded SQLite database. An Android application typically consists out of different visual and non visual components and can reuse components of other applications.

Future of Android

Android is a Linux-based mobile phone operating system developed by Google. Android is unique because Google is actively developing the platform but giving it away for free to hardware manufacturers and phone carriers who want to use Android on their devices. A modified version of Android is used in the Google TV, the Barnes & Noble Nook eReader, the Samsung Galaxy Tab, and countless other devices. Parrot makes both a digital photo frame and a car stereo system powered by modified versions of Android.
